Toe nail fungus
Toe nail fungus can be caused from several different types of fungus and can be difficult to treat. As they grow, they feed on keratin, the protein that makes up the hard surface of the nail. Nail fungus often causes the end of the nail to separate from the nail bed. Debris may build up under the nail and discolour the nail bed. It becomes thick and as the infection continues, the nail may crumble. Fungal infection of the toenails occurs 4x more frequently than that of the fingernails, due to moist environment in shoes. The big and little toenails are most likely to develop a fungus. This may be partly because those toes are constantly rubbing on the sides of the shoes. Toenail fungus rarely heals on it's own. It is a chronic condition that gradually progresses to involve more of the nail. Even if the affected nail falls off, the new nail that grows is usually infected with fungus. To prevent toenail fungus, wear proper fitting shoes and avoid shoes made from synthetic uppers. Wear flip flops in communal areas; wash your feet daily and dry them thoroughly; use foot powder; wear clean socks everyday and avoid wearing nail polish
